“The doors we open and close each day decide the lives we live. “
And also the kind of lives we live. The doors and windows, and all other structured frames are exemplary of the architectural styles of a place, and the history they hold. Every corner of Pushkar has a beautiful door so I thought of compiling some of the doors of Pushkar in a post.
Walking through these frames, one can reflect on the diversity, and secularity of our society. While on one hand, some doors have scribblings in Hindi hinting upon the presence of an orthodox Hindu household, on the other hand, the door structure, and the arc style is a clear example of Muslim influence in architecture.
The contrasting colours and beautiful patterns on some of the doors seen in Pushkar show the creative side of the craftsmen and their artistic demeanour.
The following door is as traditional as it gets. With definite floral patterns, surrounded by the nature’s touch, the is one of the most historically presentable structure in the city of Pushkar.
Hanging upon the rusted hinges, creaks open a freshly painted door. While the outer structure looks a little weary owing to its old age, the glossy paint just make it stand apart from the likes of it.
Amidst the calm blues, and the pastel yellows, stands this gourd of magnificence. Its monochromatic outer layer, shines independently across a clear background. And the locks and chains only add to its pertaining charm.
While the partial openness of some doors spark a certain curiosity in the mind of the onlooker, the closed door just deepens the mystery. One just can’t help but wonder what lies behind them, or, who awaits.
Standing behind close doors, only one thought crosses the mind, and that is of wonder, of what could lie beyond. To find that out, there is just one way, by getting in.
So take a deep breath, close your eyes, and without any hesitation take the first step in.
