After months of speculation and endless wait, Google finally launched GoogleHome – its range of smart speakers, in India. The event was held in Andaz Delhi, a luxury hotel by Hyatt in Aerocity, close to Indira Gandhi International Airport. Google Home Mini, which is a smaller version of Google Home, was also launched at the same event.

Google Home comprises a range of smart speakers, which are WiFi enabled. They are also equipped with Bluetooth and far field microphones, and support both Android and iOS devices. The apparatus includes a 2-inch speaker and dual 2-inch passive radiators, which improves the bass. While the top is white-coloured, there are a variety of colours that can be swapped for the base. It also contains coloured LEDs for indicators and a touch panel for control. Google Home Mini is quite convenient in terms of size, as it does not occupy more space than a doughnut, roughly. It also provides 360 degrees sound, has 4 LED indicators, as well as swappable fabric covers.

Both the devices come with in-built Google Assistant, which can do just about anything for the user. Besides answering almost every possible question, playing music, and providing entertainment, it also helps you to plan your day by scheduling meetings, setting alarms and the like. It can also be used to control other smart devices inside the house, like compatible smart lights, through voice recognition technology. Far field voice recognition supports hands free use, and high excursion speakers provide a clear and rich bass sound. The WiFi connection is sufficiently strong to facilitate high performance streaming. Music can be directly streamed from phone to Google Home through Chromecast enabled audio apps. Lots of other exciting features, like inclusion of Hindi as one of the operative languages, is on the cards. Google Home is priced at Rs. 9999, while Google Home Mini is selling for Rs. 4499. Presently, both products are exclusively available on Flipkart, and various offline stores. The price includes a 6 month subscription of Google Play Music.

Google launch parties are always done in style, and this was no exception. The hashtag used at for the launch was #makegoogledoit , which was quite catchy and appealing. I always look forward to Google launch parties and this one definitely lived up to my expectations. I think I have found my best intern in none other than the Google Home.
